Origin of This Pattern

I’ve been eyeing the Red Heart Scrubby yarn for a while now. Such a cool yarn invention! I’ve seen some creative and cute crochet kitchen scrubby patterns made with it. I’ve also been eyeing a million and one patterns for dish cloths using 100% cotton yarn. The problem is, I really like my little kitchen sponges. Continue reading Crochet Kitchen Scrubby Pattern

15 Crochet Projects Perfect For Summer

Summer tends to be a time when crocheters do a little less crocheting than they would during the rest of the year. We put aside our hooks and yarn in favor of outdoor adventures and cooler hobbies. No one is dreaming of cozy winter hats and scarves when it’s hot out and the last thing you want to work on by the pool is a heavy, warm blanket! However, some of us are just so in love with the hobby that we can’t stop even if the warmer aspect of the craft is not appealing. Some of us just have to pull out those hooks and do SOMETHING! Not Everyone Succeeds Quickly: My Small Business Reflections on 2016

Two years ago, in 2015, I decided to try my hand at selling handmade crocheted items. I didn’t have a lot of free time as a mom of 3 with a part time job, but it seemed like something I could fit into some of those “extra” moments. Like sitting on a bench watching my three boys at the park or watching t.v. with the hubby at night. And maybe, just maybe, I could make a little money at it. I came up with a name, applied for a business license, set up a website, and signed up for a few local craft shows. I loved it! It was so much fun! After figuring in all my expenses at the end of the year, I did make a profit… but it wasn’t much! I was a little bummed, but I thoroughly enjoyed the satisfaction that came from conquering completely new challenges… and at least I covered the cost of all those yarn shopping trips that were probably more than I really needed (who knew buying yarn could be so addicting?)!

Setting up for a craft fair at the end of 2015.

In 2016 I set out to improve my business and my profit. Continue reading Not Everyone Succeeds Quickly: My Small Business Reflections on 2016

Extra Thick Crochet Hot Pad

hotpadcollageIf you are looking for a nice, thick hot pad, this is it! My biggest fear when using a crocheted hot pad is that it will have a hole somewhere in it that is big enough for me to get burned! And it’s a valid fear… by nature, crochet work has holes. So, when I created this pattern, preventing burns was the first thing on my mind! This pattern is DOUBLE SIDED for extra protection and incorporates two different stitches for safety, as well as beauty. I love the unique textures created by using different stitches on each side.
