(sc) single crochet

Chain 21.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across (20).

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in same stitch and in each stitch across (20).

Row 3 – 26: Repeat Row 2 (20).

Row 27: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in same stitch and in next 8 stitches. Ch 2. Skip next 2 stitches. Sc in remaining 9 stitches to the end of the row (20).

Row 28: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in same stitch and next 8 stitches. 2 Sc in the Chain 2 space from row 27. Sc in remaining 9 stitches to the end of the row (20).

Row 29 – 30: Repeat Row 2 (20). Do not fasten off.

Joining the edges: Fold work in half, so that the purse measures roughly 6.5″ wide and 4″ tall. At the corner where you ended row 30, join one side of the purse together at the corner, using sc.  Sc as evenly as possible along the short edge of the purse (towards the fold). Once you get to the corner, fasten off and weave in ends.

Join the opposing edges together by joining the yarn where the corners meet and sc as evenly along the edge as possible. At the corner, fasten off and weave in ends.

Now, turn your purse inside out in order to hide the seams.

Button: Locate where the button should go by putting your finger through the button hole. The spot where your finger touches the inside back of the purse is where you should attach your button. Using your thread and sewing needle, attach button to inside edge of back of purse.

Fringe: Cut 18 pieces of yarn, about 6″ each. Locate the 6th row down from the top of the front of purse. Attach one piece of string to each stitch across the front of the purse, at row 6. This should create a fringe directly below the button when the purse is fastened. Trim the fringe so that it is the length that you want and ends are even. (If you’ve never added fringe to a project, you can find my photo tutorial HERE.)
