Blooming Ridges | Crochet Beanie Pattern with diagonal lines

Close up of crochet beanie with diagonal lines created from bean stitch clusters. Beanie is green ombre and site on a log background.

This beautiful crochet beanie pattern with diagonal lines was designed to match the Blooming Ridges Scarf! The simple diagonal lines are created with strategically placed bean stitch clusters!

The beautiful color fade from the suggested yarn takes this design up a notch without adding any additional work for the crocheter! An easy improvement is the best improvement! Of course, the details of this design would look great with any color yarn!

The Yarn for This Crochet Beanie

The yarn used for this beanie is Lion Brand Mandala Gradient. The highlight of this yarn is the beautiful color fade! I am already a fan of the original Mandala line, but I am also a sucker for a multi-colored yarn where the colors fade slowly from one shade to another. This particular yarn does it beautifully.

Slanted look at the crochet beanie and it's diagonal line design. Photo is a wide landscape, showing blurred flowers and grass in the background

Besides the color differences, the other change between the original Mandala yarn and the Mandala Gradient is yarn weight. The original is a size 3 light weight and the Gradient is slightly larger at a size 4 medium. The good news is that it is easy to substitute any of your favorite size 4 yarn in this pattern!

I have to say Mandala is not the softest of the Lion Brand selections, but it is soft enough to be comfortable and worth it for the color in my opinion.

Materials:

Gauge:

After completion of band instructions, work should measure 2.5” wide by approximately 19” long.

Finished Size:

19” circumference x 8.5” tall (not including pom pom)

Abbreviation Key:

(sk) skip
(st) stitch
(ch) chain
(sl st) slip stitch
(sc) single crochet
(sc blo) single crochet back loop only
(dc) double crochet
Special stitch: Bean Stitch
** Repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed
( ) Work instructions within parenthesis in the same stitch or space

How to Crochet the Bean Stitch:

Insert hook into next stitch. Yarn over (yo) and pull through. You should have 2 loops on your hook. Yo and insert hook into the same stitch. Yo and pull through. You should have 4 loops on your hook. Yo and insert hook into the same stitch again. Yo and pull through. You should have 6 loops on your hook. Yo and pull through all 6 loops on the hook. Chain 1.

Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain(s) of each row/round does not count as a stitch unless stated otherwise in the pattern.

I tend to crochet tightly. So be sure to check your gauge and if you are crocheting more loosely you can move to a smaller hook (or larger if you crochet even more tightly). Some people find they even need to go down two hook sizes to meet my gauge.

The ‘chain 1’ at the end of the bean stitch is part of the bean stitch. If you are instructed to chain 1 after a bean stitch, this is in addition to the chain 1 that is part of the bean stitch.

If resizing width of the band, adjust the number of rows in your band to be any multiple of 6. To resize height, simply add or remove rounds to the body of the hat.
