Crochet Ball Ornament Pattern using Yarn-Ology Yarn
Hobby Lobby’s Scrub-Ology Scrub It Yarn is perfect for this easy crochet Ball Ornament pattern! The colors are bright and festive and the shine reflects light beautifully on the Christmas tree! This pattern uses only the single crochet stitch so it is easy for beginners and can be done in 20 minutes!
Crocheting Over a Ball Ornament
What makes these ornaments so fun and easy is that the crocheted piece is a cover that slips easily over a pre-made ball Christmas ornament. Using the ball as an insert for your crochet work makes the final product look so flawless!
I wish I could claim that I came up with this brilliant method myself, but I was inspired by a few other creators who tried it out first. Check out some of my favorites from Simply Made By Erin, Briana K Designs and The Loophole Fox!

Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology Scrub It is designed to be used for scrubby and kitchen items. It is 100% nylon and a chunky size 5 weight. It is a little bit stretchy like t-shirt yarn, but also has a unique texture that is scratchy and krinkly. It kind of feels like tulle if you rolled it up. The size and stretch makes it an easy yarn to work up some simple stitches really quickly.
It also has a sparkly sheen to it that makes it a great option for creating holiday magic! The fact that there is also a true Christmas red, green and white in the color line up sealed the deal for me!

Video Tutorial:
Written Pattern:
Ch 4. Join with a sl st to the first ch to create a circle.
Alternative: use the magic circle starting method.
Round 1: Ch 1. Sc 6 times in the circle. Do not join. <6> Mark the last st and begin to crochet in a spiral, using your stitch marker to keep track of the last st of each round.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. <12>
Round 3: *1 sc in next st. 2 sc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. <18>
Round 4: *Sc in each of next 2 sts. 2 sc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. <24>
Note: circle should be approximately 3” across at this point.
Rounds 5 – 13: Sc in each st around. <24>
Finish off the last round, leaving a long tail.
Using a yarn needle and the beginning tail, make sure the starting circle is cinched shut. Weave in the end.
Place ornament inside your work.
Using a yarn needle and the finishing tail, weave tail in and out around the top of the final round of stitches. Pull to cinch snuggly around top of ornament. Knot to secure. Weave in the end.
