Sparkly Crochet Ball Ornament | Free Crochet Pattern
This sparkly crochet ball ornament gets it’s shine from the tinsel eye-lash yarn used to make it. It works up super quick using only double crochet stitches. The shiny fibers do all the work to make this ornament festive and bright!
The festive colors of this yarn would make it especially fun for a grinch or whimsical themed display. And the simple design makes it easy for even a beginner to complete!
Crocheting Over A Ball Ornament
What makes these ornaments so perfectly shaped is that the crocheted piece is a cover that slips easily over a pre-made ball Christmas ornament. Using the ball as an insert for your crochet work makes the final product look so flawless!
I wish I could claim that I came up with this brilliant method myself, but I was inspired by a few other creators who tried it out first. Check out some of my favorites from Simply Made By Erin, Briana K Designs and The Loophole Fox!

Scrub-Ology 2.0 yarn is incredibly unique. It is similar to an eye-lash yarn, but the fibers are more metallic. It makes the product description of “sparkling tinsel” very appropriate!
When I was hunting for yarn that would work well for Christmas ornaments, this one was a very fun find! Not only is the effect of the yarn sparkly and “tinselly”, it also comes in the perfect Christmas red, green and white! The colors are bright and the green is especially fun since it is more of a “grinch” green than an earthy green.
I found the yarn fairly easy to work with for a novelty yarn and I love how reflective the fibers are in the light. These will have the perfect amount of Christmas glimmer on the Christmas tree!

Written Pattern Notes:
I tend to crochet tightly. So be sure to check your gauge and if you are crocheting more loosely you can move to a smaller hook (or larger if you crochet even more tightly). Some people find they even need to go down two hook sizes to meet my gauge.
Chain 2 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
Pattern:
Ch 4. Join with a sl st to the first ch to create a circle.
Alternative: use the magic circle starting method.
Round 1: Ch 2. Dc 10 times in the circle. Join with a sl st to first dc. <10>
Round 2: Ch 2. 2 dc in each st around. <20>
Round 3: Ch 2. *1 dc in next st. 2 dc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. <30>
Note: circle should be approximately 3.25” across at this point.
Rounds 4 – 8: Dc in each st around. <30>
Finish off the last round, leaving a long tail.
Using a yarn needle and the beginning tail, make sure the starting circle is cinched shut. Weave in the end.
Place ornament inside your work.
Using a yarn needle and the finishing tail, weave tail in and out around the top of the final round of stitches. Pull to cinch snuggly around top of ornament. Knot to secure. Weave in the end.
