Tips for Using Fluffy Yarn

Once the weather starts to cool off, that fluffy, furry or fuzzy yarn starts to look very appealing! It’s so soft and cozy! However, all that fluff can be incredibly difficult to crochet with! As soon as a stitch is formed, it gets buried beyond recognition! It can be enough to make you avoid it altogether.
But don’t give up! There are some great strategies for making the difficulty a little more bearable and I’m sharing the ones I’ve learned with you today! Take a look at these tips for using fluffy yarn and give them a try:
1. The number one tip is that you will need to depend less on sight and more on touch. Instead of looking for your stitches, you can feel by pinching the row with your thumb and finger to find the gap for your next stitch as you go along.

2. Since feeling your stitches will be important, avoid using small hooks and tight stitches. Bigger hooks and looser stitches will make feeling your way a little easier.

3. Take advantage of stitch markers! Use them to mark the first stitch of your row each time you go around so you don’t have to search. Use them for every row so you can easily count how far you’ve made it. Use them anywhere you can think of!

4. If it works for the pattern, pair your fur yarn with a lighter, similarly colored yarn. Crocheting both yarns together can make it easier to see and feel what you’re doing. Of course, this only works if the additional yarn doesn’t show through your work. It might take a little experimenting.
5. Keep your projects simple! Even with all these tips, using fuzzy yarn is always going to be a little more difficult than regular yarn. Stick with simple projects, especially if it’s your first time using it.
Practice using that fluffy yarn!
