EASY Crochet Circle Scrubby Pattern

2 crochet circle scrubbies on a cutting board, sitting on a granite counter top.

This crochet circle scrubby pattern is a quick and easy project! One side is cotton yarn and the other is a combination of cotton and scrubby yarn. Perfect for scrubbing your dishes!

And the best thing about making your own scrubbies is that, instead of tossing them out, you can toss them in the wash and use them over and over again!

And did I mention they’re cute? With all the different cotton and scrubby yarns available out there now, you can find the perfect color combo to match any kitchen!

Crocheting With Cotton

Cotton yarn has very unique and beneficial characteristics. If you would like to learn more about cotton yarn and what to make with it, check out my Ultimate Guide to Crocheting With Cotton!

The Origin of This Pattern

Years ago I created a pattern for this rectangular kitchen scrubby pattern that was meant to mimic the rectangular scrubbies you can buy at the store. I was super happy with it.

And whenever I create a pattern I am happy with (and others seem happy with too), I like to think of other variations of the pattern that are a little different, but could be just as great! And that’s how the circle scrubby crochet pattern was born! I promise I won’t make a triangle next!

The Yarn For This Pattern

When I create something that is meant to be a hard worker (scrubbing, hot water, lots of washing and drying), my go to yarn is Lily Sugar N Cream! It holds it’s shape well, it’s 100% cotton and it’s tough.

For this scrubby, I also added Red Heart Scrubby to one side of the project to give it a little extra scrub power. There are several versions of this scrubby yarn, but I like the cotton version so that the entire piece is 100% cotton.

Keeping your scrubby clean

One of the big questions that come up when people start making their own scrubbies is how to keep them fresh! Here is a helpful article on washing your cotton crochet projects!

Materials:

Gauge:

Gauge is not terribly important for this pattern. Side one will be approximately 3 ½” wide at completion when meeting designers gauge.

Sizing:

3 ¾” wide x ½” thick

Stitches Used:

(ch) chain
(sl st) slip stitch
(sc) single crochet
(dc) double crochet

Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain of each round does not count as a stitch.

I tend to crochet tightly. Gauge is not terribly important for this pattern, but if you would like the sizing to be similar to the designer’s, you can check gauge after Side 1 is complete. If you are crocheting more loosely you can move to a smaller hook (or larger if you crochet even more tightly). Some people find they even need to go down two hook sizes to meet my gauge.

Written Pattern:

Side 1:

For this side you will crochet with 1 strand of size 4 cotton yarn.

Round 1: Ch 3. Dc in the 3rd chain from the hook. Dc 9 more times in the same chain. Join with a sl st to the first dc of the round. (10)

Round 2: Ch 2. Place 2 dc in the same stitch. Place 2 dc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st to the first dc of the round. (20)

Round 3: Ch 2. Place 2 dc in the same stitch. Place 1 dc in the next stitch. *Place 2 dc in the next stitch. Place 1 dc in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the first dc of the round. (30)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Circle should be about 3 ½” across.

Side 2:

For this side you will crochet with 1 strand of size 4 cotton yarn and 1 strand scrubby yarn held together. Crocheting will feel very tight, especially in the first round. Following rounds will be easier. Do your best to loosen up your stitches as you go so it is not too tight.

Round 3: (don’t miss the switch to sc here) Ch 1. Place 2 sc in the same stitch. Place 1 sc in the next stitch. *Place 2 sc in the next stitch. Place 1 sc in the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. (30) Do not finish off.

Note: the circle may curl in a bit due to the double yarn, but as long as you can manipulate it to lay flat with your fingers, this is ok.

Both circles should be approximately the same size, though side 2 may be slightly larger.

Joining the two sides.

Drop (and finish off) the scrubby yarn but continue to use just the cotton yarn in the following steps. Place the two circles on top of each other, with side one closer to you. Insert your hook through both sides and single crochet the outer edges together. After you have made it all the way around, sl st to the first sc of the outer edge. (30)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Note: the edges will curve slightly towards the non-scrubby side. This is ok. It allows the scrubby side to have a larger surface area.

  1. I’m a new to crochet and just finished my first round. It measures exactly 3 1/2 inches. If I wanted to add one more round, how would I do it? Thank you.
