Floral Scrubby Crochet Pattern

Small circle crocheted scrubby (pile of 3 in different colors), sitting on a marble counter

This floral scrubby crochet pattern is designed to be both soft and practical! You can use it in the kitchen for dishes or in the bathroom as a face scrubby or bath loofah!

Use the loop to hang it up to dry and even to brighten up your space. Use coordinating colors to make multiples and put them on display! And the best part about cotton yarn projects is that they can be thrown in the wash and used over and over again!

CROCHETING WITH COTTON

Cotton yarn has very unique and beneficial characteristics. If you would like to learn more about cotton yarn and what to make with it, check out my Ultimate Guide to Crocheting With Cotton!

THE ORIGIN OF THIS PATTERN

I love a good scrubby pattern! One of my most popular patterns on this site is the Kitchen Scrubby Pattern.

The one downside of my kitchen scrubby pattern is that it is pretty thick, so it takes a while to dry out. I wanted to design a scrubby that was still useful, but might have a little more airflow. I thought the design of the chain loops on this floral scrubby might provide more space for air to get into the center of the scrubby and dry out more quickly.

You will have to let me know how it does!

Either way, cotton yarn will always take a little longer to dry out than a traditional sponge or some of the more synthetic materials. If you’re looking for help on how to keep your cotton scrubby fresh, you might find this article on washing cotton yarn projects helpful.

THE YARN FOR THIS PATTERN

For this pattern I chose to use I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby. Number one reason was the color choices! Hobby Lobby has a beautiful selection of solids and multi-colored yarns that are fun to color coordinate on smaller projects like this!

Another reason is that I Love This Cotton yarn is not mercerized, which makes it more absorbent (for more info on the different types of cotton yarn and their characteristics, read this article on Different Types of Cotton Yarn).

It is also very soft, so these scrubbies would work well for the kitchen, or the bathroom. It would be perfectly soft on your skin!

Materials:

Gauge:

Gauge is not important for this pattern. See notes on tension.

Sizing:

Finished size is approximately 3 ¾” in diameter.

Stitches Used:

(ch) chain
(sl st) slip stitch
(sc) single crochet
(rsc) reverse single crochet

Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain of each round does not count as a stitch.

Gauge is not terribly important for this pattern, but if you feel your stitches are too loose or too tight, feel free to start again with a different size hook until you get the tension you prefer for a scrubby. I tend to crochet tightly, so most likely you might need to go down a hook size or two if your scrubby is feeling too floppy.

For rounds 2 through 5, you will work around once in the front loop of the previous round (round a) and then once around working into the back loop of the same stitches (round b).

Pattern:

Round 1: Ch 2. Place 6 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook. Join with a sl st to the front loop only of the first sc of the round. (6)

Note: you will no longer be stitching in one loop at a time, but into both loops at once.

Round 6: Ch 1. Place 2 sc in the same stitch. Place 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches. *Place 2 sc in the next st. Place 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to the first sc of the round. (36)

Create a loop: Chain 8. Sl st into the same stitch as your join.

Round 8: Ch 1. Beginning with the first stitch to the right of your loop, rsc in each stitch around (moving backwards, from left to right). After the final stitch before your loop, sl st into the stitch under your loop. (42)

Finish off and weave in ends.
