11 Crochet Hat Patterns That Use Super Bulky Yarn

Super bulky yarn, also known as “Size 6” yarn, is the largest size yarn that you can find out there that has a widely available variety of color and material options. (You can find larger yarn, but there will be less options).

Super bulky yarn is a great option if you’re looking for that chunky style, or if you’re looking for a piece that is really warm and cozy. The other benefit of super bulky yarn is that a project made with it will work up way faster than a project made in worsted weight. The smaller the yarn, the longer it will take to complete your project!

So, if you’re in a rush, or if you just love instant gratification, crochet hat patterns that use super bulky yarn are just right for you!

Perhaps you’ve found this article because you already purchased some super bulky yarn and you’re just not sure what to do with it. But if that’s not the case and you’re wondering what size 6 yarn you should purchase to get these looks, here are some of my personal favorites:

Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick
This is a wool blend (80% acrylic, 20% wool), so it is nice and warm. My favorite thing about this yarn is that it comes in 67 color choices!!

Lion Brand Hometown USA
This yarn is 94% acrylic and 6% rayon. This makes it a softer option and is the reason it is probably my favorite super bulky choice. It is very soft! And still lots of options with 44 colors to choose from!
