The days of Spring and Summer might be heating up, but sometimes you still need a little something to throw over shoulders in the evening. Preferably something beautiful that matches your summer outfit! These 20 crochet summer wrap and shawl patterns will give you plenty of options for that perfect accessory!

What is a Crochet Wrap?

A crochet wrap is something that can literally be “wrapped” around your shoulders to provide warmth and coverage. Usually when I think of a crochet wrap, I picture a long rectangular shape. It is like a scarf, but wider so that when you drape it over your shoulders it gives a nice bit of cover.

A wrap could be a triangular shape as well. This shape can also be worn as a scarf (a triangle scarf), but when worn like a blanket over your back it can also be classified as a “wrap.” Another word for a triangular wrap is a “shawl.” A shawl has a more vintage feel to it.

What makes it for Summer?

A wrap can be worn for warmth and coverage at any time of the year, but a summer wrap has particular characteristics. In the summer you typically don’t need something really thick and cozy; you just need a light cover to protect against a mild drop in temperatures as the sun goes down.

So most of these crochet summer wrap patterns are lacy and light. This allows for a lot of variations and stitch designs. Some are simple and some elaborate, but all are fairly lightweight and airy. Have fun picking one that suits you just right…
